5 Most Breath-taking Sunsets on the Way: Fisterra and Muxía

1. Cape Fisterra Lighthouse (The End of the World)

The most iconic spot for any pilgrim. Standing at the «Kilometer 0.0» marker, you feel the true weight of history. The lighthouse was built in 1853 and its light reaches over 65 kilometers into the Atlantic. Watching the sun disappear here isn’t just a sunset; it’s the symbolic end of your journey, where the land literally stops and the infinite ocean begins.

2. Santuario de la Barca in Muxía

This is the most spiritual and wild sunset on the «Costa da Morte». The sanctuary sits right on the edge of the sea, surrounded by massive, mystical stones like the «Pedra de Abalar». When the sun goes down, the orange light reflects on the granite rocks and the white foam of the crashing waves. It’s a place of ancient legends where the Virgin Mary is said to have arrived in a stone boat.

3. Praia de Rostro (The Wild Beach)

If you want to avoid the crowds, this is the place. It is a 2-kilometer long, untamed beach between Fisterra and Muxía. Because it faces directly West, you get an uninterrupted view of the horizon. The sound of the powerful Atlantic wind and the massive waves creates a dramatic atmosphere that makes you feel tiny against the power of nature.

4. Mount Facho (Panoramic Views)

Located near the village of Duio, Mount Facho is a hidden gem. From the top, you get a 360-degree view of the entire Cape of Fisterra and the Lires estuary. In ancient times, this was a site for Celtic rituals and signal fires. Watching the sunset from here allows you to see the golden light illuminating the green Galician mountains and the blue sea at the same time.

5. Corcubión Bay (The Peaceful Reflection)

Not every sunset needs to be dramatic. Corcubión is a beautiful, traditional fishing village with noble houses. The sunset here is calmer and more poetic. The sun sets behind the hills, painting the quiet waters of the bay in shades of pink and purple. It’s the perfect spot to sit at a local tavern with a glass of Albariño wine and enjoy the peace before the final walk to the Lighthouse.
