Pilgrim's Mass: what it is and when it is celebrated

Pilgrim's Mass: what it is and when it is celebrated. The Pilgrim's Mass is one of the most emblematic events of Santiago de Compostela, celebrated in honor of the thousands of pilgrims who complete their journey through the Camino de Santiago.

This ceremony, full of spirituality and tradition, takes place daily in the majestic Cathedral of Santiago, where the faithful can participate in an emotional event.

When is the Pilgrim's Mass celebrated?

The Pilgrim's Mass is celebrated every day at 12:00 in the spiritual heart of the Cathedral of Santiago. It is a moment full of symbolism, in which pilgrims who have completed the Camino are honored at the beginning of the ceremony. In the past, there was a public reading of their names, nationalities and the points from where they began their journey.

This mass is not only a liturgical act, but also a space for pilgrims to express their gratitude for the journey, reflect on the challenges overcome and celebrate arriving at the long-awaited goal.

He mass schedule in the cathedral of Santiago It remains fixed every day, with four shifts available for attendees. Although the most traditional and popular mass is at 12:00 noon, three others are also celebrated: at 7:30 and 9:30 in the morning, and another at 7:30 in the afternoon.

All ceremonies take place at the Cathedral's High Altar and, like the midday mass, include the reading of the names of the pilgrims who have arrived in Santiago and claimed their compostela in the last 24 hours.

If you wonder How long does the pilgrim mass last? You should know that it usually lasts from 40 minutes to 1 hour.
