The Civil Guard investigates a young man in Nájera for drug trafficking thanks to a notice in AlertCops
The Civil Guard has investigated a 21-year-old young man, with a criminal record, for an alleged crime against public health in Nájera (La Rioja), after a citizen alert received through the application AlertCops.
The notice warned that the young man would be distributing hashish and marijuana in a leisure area frequented by minors and pilgrims on the Camino de Santiago. The Civil Guard activated a surveillance device, identifying the suspect and observing several small-scale drug transactions. The buyers confirmed the sales, which led to the seizure of the drugs and administrative complaints.
The young man was arrested in Nájera, where he acknowledged his activity of selling drugs to survive due to his unemployment situation.
In the search of his home, authorized voluntarily, 285 grams of hashish (part camouflaged in candy bar wrappers), 20 grams of marijuana, a precision scale, two knives with traces of drugs and 120 euros in cash were found.
This operation is part of the “Operational Plan for Police Response to Retail Traffic and Drug Consumption in Leisure Areas, Places and Premises” of the Civil Guard.
The investigated person was brought to judicial custody. The Civil Guard has highlighted the importance of AlertCops as a tool for citizen collaboration in the anonymous reporting of crimes.
