Outrageous! Vigo, a Labyrinth for Pilgrims: Where Are the Signs of the Way?
Vigo, Galicia. It is simply shameful that a city with the potential and affluence of Vigo remains inexplicably blind to a reality that embarrasses any Galician: the shameful absence of signage on the Camino de Santiago. Thousands of pilgrims, many of them foreigners and coming from our neighboring country, Portugal, embark on the adventure of the Coastal Path, only to find themselves in a real labyrinth when trying to leave the city.
The majority are groups of middle-aged Catholic pilgrims, many of whom become hopelessly lost when trying to leave Vigo. The result? Wrong routes along dangerous avenues such as Ramón Nieto or Airport Avenue, while communication becomes impossible due to the language barrier. It is a regrettable spectacle that damages the image of Galicia and the Camino itself.

»Bulo Pirulo» or Flagrant Abandonment? The Xunta in the Spotlight
The question is obvious and the indignation is growing: Why does the Xunta de Galicia refuse to signpost the Camino de Santiago as it passes through Vigo, being within its clear jurisdiction? Years ago, under the Fraga and Touriño governments, the signs were painted on the ground. Who painted them then? The Xunta. Why is the problem now slipping away and attempts are made to blame the Mayor of Vigo?
Stating that the problem lies in the alleged refusal of the Mayor, Abel Caballero, sounds like an unacceptable "pirulo hoax." If this were really the case, shouldn't the Xunta take the case to court? The lack of action only reinforces the painful suspicion that, since Mr. Feijóo came to power and now with Mr. Rueda at the helm, the Camino signage in Vigo simply they are not interested. It is a clamorous abandonment of a key city on the Jacobean route.
A Shout to Collaboration (and Fulfillment of Commitments)
It is time to demand those responsible put aside excuses and political games. An urgent call is made to both the Xunta de Galicia and the Council of Vigo: Get to work, together, for the good of citizens and pilgrims! We voters give our trust so that commitments are fulfilled, not to listen to empty promises in the campaign.
The reality in Vigo is a sad contrast with the "many qualities of life and well-being" that they promise in their electoral programs. The signage of the Camino in this city is not a whim; It is an imperative need, a legal and moral duty that, unfortunately, continues to be ignored.
