The Pilgrims for Cantabria Association has deployed an extensive program of activities to commemorate the tenth anniversary of the declaration of the Caminos del Norte as a World Heritage Site in 2025. This plan, which was presented at the Camargo City Council, ranges from informative talks and film screenings to dramatized hiking routes and a national youth meeting.
Among the initiatives stand out:
- Series of talks and films: The La Vidriera cultural center will host informative talks and film screenings related to the Camino de Santiago.
- Dramatized marches and routes: Walks will be organized to promote the Caminos de Santiago in Cantabria, as well as dramatized routes in Camargo.
- youth meeting: Güemes will host a national meeting of young pilgrims, with various cultural and debate activities.
- Educational and cultural activities: Talks will be held in schools, a book on Jacobean credentials will be presented, a photographic exhibition will be organized and prizes will be awarded.
The association has also renewed its board of directors, with Valeriano Teja Oruña as president, for the period 2025-2026. This new board will be in charge of ensuring the pilgrims and the infrastructure of the Camino in Cantabria.
The Pilgrims for Cantabria Association, founded in 1988, seeks with these activities to raise awareness among the population about the importance of the Northern Paths and encourage their active participation. It is a non-profit entity that offers most of its activities for free.
