Celebration and Hiking: El Bierzo Invites You to Rediscover the Camino with a Great Popular March
PONFERRADA, LEÓN. – The Association of Friends of the Camino de Santiago in El Bierzo has organized a special day of hiking to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the San Nicolás de Flüe Hostel in Ponferrada. The highlight of the celebration will be a grand guided walking which will be held next October 19, inviting neighbors, pilgrims and associations to join in an emblematic tour.

The objective of the activity is twofold: to celebrate the history of the hostel in the capital of Bercia and rediscover the Camino de Santiago in the province of León, reinforcing its heritage and human value.
Iconic Route: From the Iron Cross to Ponferrada
The march will run along one of the most iconic and symbolic sections of the French Way: from the legendary Iron Cross to the capital of Bierzo.
The group has detailed that it is an activity open to the general public, regardless of previous experience. To guarantee the comfort and safety of all participants, the organization has provided a complete infrastructure:
- Bus Transfers: Buses will be available to transport participants to the starting point of the walk.
- Support Vehicle: A support vehicle will accompany the group throughout the route to deal with any eventuality.
- Informative Stops: There will be strategic breaks in the picturesque towns of The Holly y Molinaseca, where talks and historical information about the Camino will be offered before the final arrival at Ponferrada.
Previous Jacobean Training in Astorga
As part of the 25th anniversary commemorative program, the Association has organized an activity essential for the vitality of the Camino: a initiation course for volunteer hospitalists.
This course, aimed at all those people interested in collaborating selflessly in welcoming pilgrims, will be held on the days October 17 and 18 in Astorga.
Course participants will receive an additional incentive: they will be able to stay free of charge at the Astorga pilgrim hostel during training and obtain a reduced price to register and participate in the subsequent walk on October 19.
The initiative underlines the commitment of the Bierzo Association not only to the history, but also to the future of the Camino, ensuring that Jacobean hospitality and culture continue to flourish in León.
