Rome during the Jubilee of 2025

Rome during the Jubilee of 2025: Although at first it was celebrated every 100 years, since 1470, the Jubilee It has taken place every 25 years. It is true that, on special occasions, this date designated for Catholic Christians has been advanced. For example: Pope Francis decreed that 2015 would be the Holy Year of Mercy.

Until January 6, 2026, believers who wish to do so will be able to visit Romeand participate in person in some of the events that will take place in the Italian capital on the occasion of this celebration, whose etymological origin is in the Yom Kippur Jew.

The online store of sacred items HOLYART, apart from distributing die-cuts and molds for hosts internationally (in the United Kingdom, USA, Germany, Spain, France, Italy, Poland and Portugal), also has – within its online catalog – a specific section, reserved for Jubilee 2025 products with which the pilgrim can identify in his trip to rome.Pope Francis Jubilee Mercy photoABACA via Reuters

Do I need a visa to visit Rome during the Jubilee?

In the case of the spanish citizens, it is not necessary to obtain any visa to access the country during the Holy Year; The DNI is enough. This is indicated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Italy, which places the valid passport as an alternative to the National Identity Document.

The DNI and passport are valid both for stays of up to 90 days and for longer periods of time that exceed 3 months. The condition is that, in both cases, the permanence in the country is due to religious reasons.

For those who come from nations like China, it is necessary to obtain the special “Tourism-Jubilee” visa which has been designed for those who want to get involved in the pilgrimages to Rome that the local Churches have organized on the occasion of this Jubilee of 2025.

The visa authorizes you to also visit other areas of religious worship (not just Rome) during the Holy Year. Spanish citizens do not need to complete this bureaucratic procedure (as we have explained previously).

Prayers to pray at the pilgrimage destination

Another issue to take into account for the pilgrim are the prayers that the website Giubileo 2025 has published in a downloadable and printable PDF. This document includes the interventions of the president of the group of pilgrims and the believers themselves who participate in the pilgrimage. The structure is as follows:

  1. In the Piazza Pia, the president reads aloud the first five verses of chapter 5 of Letter to the Romans.
  2. Then, after a brief silence, the pilgrimage to the Holy Door. In this time interval, the pilgrimage group can sing Psalms 122 and 84 (depending on the edition of the Bible, the Psalms may change to 121 and 83).
  3. In the course of Church of Santa Maria in Traspontina, the leader of the group of pilgrims performs a prayer.
  4. Upon reaching the Holy Door, Psalm 24 (in some editions, Psalm 23) is prayed. The event ends with the prayer of Creed, the blessing to the Lord and the final gratitude also to God.

The Holy Door corresponds in this pilgrimage to the entrance door to St. Peter's Basilica (in Vatican City) which is only opened on the special occasion of the Jubilee.
