The woman had to be airlifted by emergency services after suffering an injury during her pilgrimage
The Camino de Santiago is a life-changing experience for thousands of people every year, but it also requires caution, preparation and respect for one’s physical limits.
A female pilgrim walking through Asturias had to be rescued by the Asturian Emergency Service (SEPA) after suffering an injury that prevented her from continuing her journey on the Camino.
According to reports, the incident took place near Alto del Palo, in the municipality of Allande, while the pilgrim was following one of the historic pilgrimage routes through northern Spain. Emergency teams were quickly deployed to the area, including the medical rescue helicopter, to provide assistance.

After reaching the injured woman, rescue personnel assessed her condition and safely evacuated her by helicopter to receive specialised medical attention.
While the vast majority of pilgrims complete the Camino without serious incidents, this rescue serves as a reminder of the importance of adequate preparation, suitable footwear, proper hydration and adapting each stage to individual fitness levels.
Routes in northern Spain, particularly those featuring steep terrain and changing weather conditions, can present additional challenges that should not be underestimated.
The swift response of the rescue teams ensured that the pilgrim received the care she needed as quickly as possible, highlighting once again the outstanding work carried out by mountain rescue professionals.
At RTV Camino de Santiago, we would like to wish the injured pilgrim a speedy and full recovery.
Because sometimes, the greatest act of courage on the Camino is knowing when to stop, ask for help and continue the journey another day.
Buen Camino and get well soon.
