Pilgrims from Xàbia conquer Santiago de Compostela: A journey of faith, effort and solidarity
«Buen Camino!» It is the fraternal greeting that resonates along the Jacobean routes, an encouragement that drives pilgrims to continue on their journey to Santiago de Compostela. The recent Camino congress held in Xàbia has been the setting where heartfelt pilgrims have shared inspiring stories of their experiences, from the departure in Xàbia to the exciting arrival at the Plaza del Obradoiro.
Gwendolyn and Glen Ward: A 70-year-old couple defies distance and heat for a noble cause
Gwendolyn and Glen Ward, a septuagenarian couple, embody bravery and determination. His 90-day, 1,200-kilometer odyssey from Xàbia to Santiago is a testament to his adventurous spirit. But his journey had an even deeper purpose: raising funds for the fight against cancer.
“It was an incredible experience, although we also had very difficult moments,” the Wards confessed, remembering the sweltering October temperatures that marked their departure and the relentless effort of the final stages. However, their motivation transcended fatigue and heat, driving them to overcome every obstacle in their path.
Their admirable initiative not only allowed them to reach their goal in Santiago, but also gave them the opportunity to raise 3,300 euros for a cause that touches the hearts of thousands of people. Her story is a beacon of hope that shows that age is no limit when it comes to pursuing a dream and helping others.
The Camino de Santiago: A melting pot of stories and motivations
The Wards' story is just one of many that are woven into the tapestry of the Camino de Santiago. Each pilgrim, with his backpack loaded with dreams and challenges, contributes his own narrative to this ancient route. Whether for religious, spiritual, sporting reasons or simply the desire to live a unique experience, the Camino transforms those who walk it, leaving an indelible mark on their lives.
The Xàbia congress has been a space to celebrate these stories, uniting pilgrims of different origins and ages around their passion for the Camino. Their testimonies remind us that the Camino is much more than a destination; It is an inner journey that invites us to discover our strength, our ability to overcome and the beauty of what is essential.
