The boat taxi that transport pilgrims from Caminha will be able to dock at the port of A Pasaxe more easily after the agreement reached between Portos de Galicia, the Miño Naval Command and the Caminha Naval Command. In the meeting, in which the mayor of A Guarda, Roberto Álvarez, also participated, the bases were established to order this operation, guaranteeing a safer and more efficient connection between both banks of the Miño River.BARCOTAXIS on the Camino de Santiago

The rise of Portuguese Coastal Route, which in recent years has become the fastest growing variant among the Jacobean routes, has notably increased the influx of pilgrims who cross the estuary in private boats. Currently, travelers can opt for transfer services or boat taxis, boats operated mostly by former fishermen converted to tourism, which operate under prior reservation and make individual or group trips. However, until now, these ships operated with restrictions and, in some cases, landed directly on the beach, causing operational and communication problems.

On the other hand, the last Miño ferry, which for years exclusively served these private boats or the Transfer service promoted by the Xunta. With this agreement, Portos de Galicia and the maritime authorities seek to offer a more orderly and efficient alternative, thus reinforcing the security and attractiveness of the port of A Pasaxe as a strategic point on the Camino de Santiago.

In addition to regularizing the docking of boat taxis, the agreement contemplates improvements in the port infrastructure of A Guarda. Among the planned actions are the adaptation of the A Atalaia area and the installation of new lighting in the breakwater, with the aim of optimizing the port's operation.

Portos de Galicia highlights the importance of these measures not only to facilitate the transit of pilgrims, but also to enhance the economic and tourist development of the area. The regulation of maritime traffic in the Miño estuary is a key step to consolidate A Guarda as a reference point on the Jacobean route and boost port activity for the benefit of the local community.
