The Mozárabe Camino reaches the classrooms with “Letters on the Camino”, a project that unites education and pilgrimage
He Mozarabic Way of Santiago continues adding initiatives that look to the future without losing sight of tradition. Under the name of “Letters on the Road”, an educational activity has managed to bring this historic Jacobean route closer to hundreds of schoolchildren, turning the Camino into a tool for learning, identity and cultural connection.
The initiative is framed within the project “Mozarito, the Mozarabic Way at school” and has had the participation of about 500 students of Primary Education, along with almost forty teachers from different educational centers in the province of Badajoz. All of them belong to towns through which the Mozárabe Way runs, thus reinforcing the link between territory, history and community.
The activity was developed through the exchange of letters between the different participating schools. In them, the schoolchildren shared information about their towns and their relationship with the Camino: landscapes, heritage, traditions, local customs, popular vocabulary, recipes, legends and even songs. An exercise that promoted writing, reading and mutual knowledge between municipalities united by the same Jacobean route.

Beyond academic learning, “Letters on the Camino” has served to awaken curiosity and respect for one of the least known routes of the Camino de Santiago, but loaded with history and meaning. The project has allowed the youngest to understand that the Camino is not just a path for pilgrims, but a living element that is part of their environment and their cultural identity.
In recognition of their involvement, the educational centers received a commemorative plaque and the participating students were presented with backpacks, in a symbolic gesture that reinforces the idea of sowing the pilgrims of tomorrow today.
This educational initiative demonstrates that the Mozárabe Way continues to grow not only in kilometers, but also in values, cultural transmission and future. A Path that is learned, written and shared from the classrooms.
