Correos has launched the 'Twelve causes, one Camino' initiative, which aims to highlight the valuable work carried out by various associations and entities in the social, educational and solidarity field on the Camino de Santiago. Throughout this year, 'El Camino con Correos' will be dedicated to promoting different projects that highlight the human heritage of this route, promoting the Jacobean values of solidarity, friendship, inclusion and equality.
The initiative begins with the month of January, which is focused on the ONCE Foundation. This organization seeks to ensure that the Camino de Santiago is an accessible and inclusive experience for everyone, including pilgrims with disabilities and older people. Through its website, Caminodesantiago.fundaciononce.es, you can find files
detailed information about each stage, as well as information on the accessibility of hostels, churches, tourist offices and health centers, thus facilitating the preparation of the trip.
The ONCE Foundation has collaborated with Blind Explorer, a tool that helps people with visual disabilities orient themselves in the natural environment, using sounds to guide pilgrims on their route and describe the terrain and nearby points of interest.
Furthermore, in 2024, the ONCE Foundation carried out a pilot project to evaluate the accessibility of the Camino, allowing a group of a dozen people with different types of disabilities, together with technicians from the organization, to travel the one hundred kilometers that separate Pamplona from Logroño. Throughout the year, other entities such as the Red Cross, Ingada Foundation, Compostela Universities, Caminus, Feafes, CompostELA, CaminoPerregrino, CamminAustismo, Macma, Federación de Municipios do Camiño Inglés and Discamino will also be highlighted in this initiative.
