The Camino de Santiago will add a new icon to the Ribeira Sacra with the largest pedestrian suspension bridge in Spain over the Sil River
The environment of Camino de Santiago in the Ribeira Sacra is preparing to host an infrastructure destined to become a new tourist and landscape landmark: he largest pedestrian suspension bridge in Spain, which will be built on the Sil River, in the heart of one of the most spectacular landscapes in the northwest of the peninsula.
The project, with an investment close to 15 million euros, has already begun its planning phase and will represent a decisive boost for the region, closely linked to historical routes of the Camino de Santiago, especially the Winter Road, which crosses this territory marked by canyons, terraced vineyards and ancient monasteries.
A bridge in one of the most emblematic landscapes of the Camino
The future hanging walkway will cross the Sil canyon at a strategic point in the Ribeira Sacra, offering unique views over the river and its natural environment. Conceived as a large format tibetan bridge, will be intended exclusively for pedestrian traffic and will be integrated into the network of trails and cultural routes in the area.

For pilgrims on the Camino de Santiago, this infrastructure will be a new experiential attraction, adding a visual and emotional dimension to the tour. The crossing of the Sil River will thus become a highlight of the trip, reinforcing the connection between nature, heritage and pilgrimage.
Tourism boost and territorial development
The bridge is not only intended as a tourist attraction, but as a tool of economic dynamization and structuring of the territory. The Ribeira Sacra, candidate for World Heritage, aspires to consolidate itself as one of the great cultural, spiritual and nature tourism destinations linked to the Camino de Santiago.
The administrations involved highlight that the project will attract visitors throughout the year, diversify the offer and reinforce the positioning of the area as a sustainable and quality tourism destination.
Camino de Santiago and landscape: a reinforced alliance
The construction of this walkway reinforces the role of the Camino de Santiago as backbone of cultural and tourism initiatives, capable of highlighting less crowded territories but with enormous heritage wealth. In the case of the Sil River, the bridge will allow us to contemplate one of the most symbolic landscapes of Galicia from a new perspective.
With this project, the Ribeira Sacra takes another step to consolidate itself as one of the great stages of the Camino, where walking also becomes an experience of contemplation and deep connection with the environment.
