Eric and Silvia Conquer the Camino de Santiago: A Journey of Love, Resilience and Visibility due to Multiple Sclerosis
Vigo, Spain – Eric and his mother, Silvia, have starred in one of the most emotional stories of the year by completing the Portuguese Coastal Route, from Vigo to Santiago de Compostela. In a challenge that mixed adventure, passion and deep filial love, this couple has traveled 100 kilometers in five days, carrying with them a powerful message of awareness about multiple sclerosis.
An Unbreakable Bond Through Sports
Eric and Silvia are already well-known faces in the sports field due to their exceptional relationship. In December 2022, they demonstrated their incredible strength by breaking the world marathon record pushing a wheelchair in Valencia, with a time of 2 hours, 52 minutes and 39 seconds. Now, they have taken that same determination to the Camino de Santiago.
A Challenge Overcome with Courage and Solidarity
From June 15 to 19, Eric and Silvia faced 20% slopes, dirt roads and temperatures above 36 degrees, overcoming 1,500 meters of positive slope until they reached the Plaza del Obradoiro. This achievement was not only a shared dream, but also a platform to give voice to multiple sclerosis, a disease that Silvia has been living with for more than 20 years.
«We always dreamed of doing the Camino. The illness forced us to postpone it, but this time we have lived it as we really wanted, together, with support and with a clear cause. “It has been a unique experience, very hard at times, but one that we will carry with us forever in our memories,” shared Eric upon arriving in Santiago.

Visibility for a Crucial Cause
The initiative, named «The Path of Eric and Silvia», had the collaboration of Hyundai and had the main objective of increasing the visibility of multiple sclerosis. This autoimmune, degenerative disease with no known cure affects the brain and spinal cord. In Spain, more than 55,000 people have been diagnosed with it, and worldwide the figure rises to 2.8 million, more than 70% of whom are women.
A Path of Accompaniment and Support
From the beginning in Vigo, Eric and Silvia were not alone. In the first stage, they were accompanied by families of children with rare diseases, as part of the solidarity initiatives «To Carreira de Leo» y «I Run for Lúa», thus sharing strength and visibility from the first kilometer. Upon their arrival in Santiago de Compostela, members of the Compostela Association of Multiple Sclerosis were waiting for them to show their support for Eric, Silvia and all the people who live with this disease.
Eric and Silvia's inspiring journey is a moving testament to resilience, unconditional love, and a powerful reminder of the importance of visibility and support for those facing health challenges.
