Canary Islands, THE ROAD BETWEEN VOLCANOES

The Association of Canarian Pilgrims on the Camino de Santiago wants to join the islands of the Province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife to the Camino de Santiago de Gran Canaria and Compostela. Unite the Canary Islands through the Camino de Santiago between volcanoes; separated by the sea, united by Santiago. There are two Jacobean Temples in the Canary Islands, which grant the same indulgences as Santiago de Compostela, these are in the Villa de Tunte and in the City of the Knights of Gáldar.

After several years of work informing pilgrims, issuing credentials, promoting the Camino on the islands, organizing talks, holding meetings, the long-awaited moment arrived. And from 2022 The General Assembly of the Federation has voted and approved the inclusion of the

Association of Canarian Pilgrims on the Camino de Santiago

.

The Canary Islands are fortunate to have Federated Associations in their two provinces. Likewise, we would like to thank the Association of Friends of the Camino de Santiago de Las Palmas for their welcome in Santiago de Compostela, and we wish to continue growing together and taking care of this beautiful friendship, but without forgetting the pique and that island rivalry so peculiar in the Canary Islands.

Under the umbrella of the Federation we work so that one day the Road to El Hierro, La Gomera, La Palma and Tenerife be included in the Caminos de Santiago. They have shown us their support to work and grow together in this wonderful Jacobean World.

The Association of Canarian Pilgrims has drawn up this itinerary without taking into account political, religious or private interests. Making the project known in these areas has only led to bad experiences. Without asking for help and with knowledge of the terrain, we have drawn up an itinerary valuing our experiences as pilgrims.

We do not try to deceive people, the Camino de Tenerife is not official, the Camino de Gran Canaria; Yes. Over time and with Pilgrims we will apply to enter the World Network of the Caminos de Santiago.

This Path between Volcanoes of Tenerife runs through the churches with the image of Santiago and ends in a Jacobean Temple, with these two ingredients, plus the pilgrims who decide to travel it, will surely one day be recognized; “Camino de Santiago between volcanoes.” Those who see a problem in saving the journey by sea do so out of ignorance.

The Apostle Santiago arrived by sea to Galicia and for centuries, pilgrims have arrived from England, giving its name to an itinerary (the English Way). In Argentina a 26 km itinerary has been created. and on the island of Mallorca a route has been drawn from the Sanctuary of Lluc in Escorca to Palma. All of them have their continuation on the Paths of the Peninsula.

A phrase remained engraved in our memory and that we share: “Before filling the Paths with Pilgrims, let us fill the Pilgrims with the Path”.
