The Order of the Camino de Santiago supports the official status of the Camino de la Ría de Muros Noia

The Order of the Camino de Santiago supports the official status of the Camino de la Ría de Muros Noia

To Pobra do Caramiñal, Galicia. The most massive maritime pilgrimage in modern history, the V Route Rías Baixas-Camino de Santiago along the Ría de Muros Noia, he had to change his course today... but not his spirit! The strong gusts of wind forced the fleet to dock in A Pobra do Caramiñal, bringing forward the party and land exploration. Because if the sea doesn't let you move forward, the land offers you its charms!

While the sailors enjoyed the gastronomy and the attractions of the Estrela estuary (with stops at the Castro de Baroña, Monte Louro or the impressive Monastery of Toxosoutos), great news came from the mainland: the Order of the Camino de Santiago joins the celebration of this nautical milestone!

The Order of Santiago gives its Blessing (and a Master at the End of the Road)

According to Santiago Freire, president of the Association of Municipalities of the Camino de la Ría de Muros Noia, the Order of the Camino de Santiago has decided to get deeply involved. «When the nautical pilgrims complete the last 12 kilometers on foot from Bertamiráns, they will be received by none other than the Grand Master of the Order of the Camino de Santiago, Miguel Pampín, in front of the doors of the Cathedral," explains Freire.

This gesture is not minor. The Order, a Compostela foundation with 1,633 knights and ladies (and more on the way on July 19), seeks to promote the universal values of the Camino: effort, solidarity, hospitality and generosity. Your support for this maritime route greatly reinforces the commitment to Maritime Route of Santiago through the Muros Noia Estuary, highlighting the success of this fifth edition.

Maritime Rescue in Action and Night in Portosín

The change of plans today, Thursday, caused by the "little wind" (or gale, depending on how you look at it), allowed the pilgrims to explore land. But tomorrow, Friday, July 4, the action returns to the sea. The expedition will set sail from A Pobra bound for the Portosín Nautical Club, making a previous stopover in Muros.

But the day brings surprises! Between 10:30 and 11:30 a.m., in the waters of the Arousa estuary, the helicopter Maritime Rescue Helimer 206 will make a rescue drill aboard two participating sailboats. A spectacular demonstration of nautical safety, part of the Summer Campaign of the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, which seeks to raise awareness about the "myths that make water" in navigation.

After the exciting drill, the fleet will continue to Portosín, where an official reception and a well-deserved dinner await them. In addition, they will be able to visit the ES Regulus ship and attend a talk on maritime emergency prevention.

A Route with Soul and Heritage Querinissima

This 2025 edition of the nautical pilgrimage, which takes place from June 30 to July 5, has 52 boats, reviving the ancient tradition of pilgrims who arrived by sea since the Middle Ages, following in the footsteps of the Venetian navigator Pietro Querini (1431).

The route marks three fundamental milestones of the Muros Noia Estuary Path: its beginning in the port of Muros, its 73 km route and its specific route. Furthermore, it is part of the Galician itinerary of the Via Querinissima, a European cultural initiative that aspires to be recognized as a European cultural itinerary. This association, born more than a decade ago, promotes cultural, food and wine tourism, leisurely and sustainable, connecting cities and regions in thirteen countries.
