Goodbye Boots, Hello Board! The Camino de Santiago is Now Done… Paddling in Paddle Surf!
Attention, aquatic pilgrims and lovers of the unusual! If you thought you had already seen it all in the Camino de SantiagoGet ready, because a Galician company has decided to take the pilgrimage to a level... very wet! Forget blisters on your feet and battles with heavy backpacks: now, the latest fashion to get to Compostela is paddling in Paddle Surf!
Yes, you read that right. The local company Ilinx SUP has launched a proposal as refreshing as it is daring: the Paddle Surf Traslatio Route. No more just stepping on land; Now you can slide over the waters of the Ría de Arousa and the Ulla River for 79 kilometers, and then, and only then, return to the traditional walk to the Plaza del Obradoiro. It is the pilgrimage with "views of the sea and the apostle" guaranteed.
A Five-Day Odyssey of Rowing and Laughter
This adventure, designed for adventurers with a desire for saltpeter and a pinch of madness, is completed in five days. The first four are pure aquatic adrenaline, starting in O Grove and winding through such emblematic enclaves as the Illa de Arousa, Cambados or the mythical Torres del Oeste in Catoira. Imagine the faces of the pilgrims on foot when they see you passing by on your board!
On the last day, in order not to lose the tradition completely, it is time to change the board for the… legs! From Padrón, the "surfer pilgrims" transform their paddle into an improvised cane to travel the final 25 kilometers to the Cathedral of Santiago. An epic combination of maritime adventure and the terrestrial essence of the Camino.

Triple Certificate and Requirement: Know How to Get on the Board!
The best thing about this “surfer” pilgrimage is that you not only get an experience to tell your grandchildren, but also!three official recognitions! In addition to the coveted Compostelana and the Pedronia, you will obtain a certificate from the Xacobea Maritime-Fluvial Route and a useful nautical booklet.
From Ilinx SUP, organizers of this blessed madness, they clarify that, although you do not need to be an Olympic SUP champion, they do recommend having a intermediate level: "knowing how to stay on the board and row several kilometers" is essential. The organization takes care of all the material and you are accompanied by expert guides so that your only concern is to enjoy… and not fall into the water!
So, if this summer you are looking for a different Camino, where faith meets the waves and sweat mixes with salt water, the Paddle Surf Camino is your next great story! To the water, pilgrims!
