Cairns and Arrows on the Palentino Camino: The pilgrimage season has already started on the Camino de Santiago as it passes through the province and, as a starting point, the Association of Friends of the French Way in Palencia has called on its members and sympathizers to carry out a campaign to repaint the milestones and arrows "to favor and clarify the itinerary at some points."
Likewise, work will be carried out to identify deficiencies in the Jacobean Route, as well as existing needs, of which the provincial and local authorities will be informed for their adaptation and improvement, for the benefit of the walkers who travel along it.
Likewise, the Jacobean collective is proceeding these days to clean the Camino, since, despite the efforts to maintain a clean itinerary, "with the passage of time and due to the negligence of some pilgrims, there is a large amount of garbage that should be cleaned thoroughly, both for aesthetics and to project a good image," underlines this entity based in the monastery of San Zoilo de Carrión de los Condes.
In this sense, and convinced that the path needs "permanent attention", the group calls on tourists to avoid littering. In this way, and in collaboration with the rest of the Jacobean Associations of the French Way, which also carry out their cleaning and conservation campaigns in their respective areas of action, "we will ensure that it is in pleasant and adequate conditions to receive the thousands of pilgrims who this year decide to visit the apostle Santiago, reaching almost half a million pilgrims in 2024," they maintain.
