The fourth edition of O Great Road (2.1 UCI) will be disputed between the February 26 and March 2. The 2025 edition will grow to five stages, one more than last year, when the Dane won Jonas Vingegaard.
As a novelty, this year he will leave Galicia to experience his first international stage, the starter stage, which will take the peloton to the north of Portugal. Specifically, on February 26 the peloton will move to the Porto District to experience the first international stage of OGC, with a route of 190.6 kilometers between Maia and Matosinhos. The route, with 1,900 meters of accumulated elevation gain, will travel through part of the northern Portuguese territory, passing through the municipalities of Trofa, Vila Nova de Famalicao, Barcelos, Ponte de Lima, Esposende, Povoa de Varzim and Vila do Conde and climbing the Feitos hill and the Sao Felix mountain, both of third category.
From there, OGC will travel to the province of Pontevedra, with a stage that will start in Marin, at the foot of the Rías Baixas, and will go inland to the finish line in To Estrada, passing through sections of the Portuguese Way and the Winter Way. There will be 144.8 kilometers of route with more than 2,500 meters of elevation gain and three first-class ports. The route will pass through Pontevedra and Campo Lameiro before climbing the San Antoniño hill, from where it will head to Moraña, Caldas de Reis, Valga and Cuntis to enter the A Estrada Town Hall, where it will climb the San Vicenzo hill twice.
The third day, February 28, will be the turn of the individual time trial, which will depart from the Roman Bridge of Ourense, on the Vía de la Plata, to finish in Pereiro de Aguiar after traveling 15.5 kilometers. Halfway through the route, the cyclists will face the Alto de Sabadelle, third grade.
The high mountains will arrive on Saturday, in the queen stage that will take place this time in the province of lugo. With an eye on the inclemencies typical of the Galician winter, the stage will start from A Pobra do Brollón, where the Winter Road passes, and will travel 142 kilometers to Pedrafita do Cebreiro, entrance to Galicia of the French Way, with a cumulative difference of 3,121 meters. Along the way, the peloton will pass through Monforte de Lemos, Bóveda, O Incio, Sarria, O Páramo, Láncara, Baralla, Becerreá, Cervantes, As Nogais and Vega de Valcarce, and will have to face Alto de Campo do Arbe –third–, Alto de Catro Ventos, second category, A Pitinidoira –first– and the final climb to O Cebreiro –second.
