12th anniversary of the Camino de Santiago from l'Alfàs del Pi. The Alfàs City Council has organized, to commemorate the anniversary of the opening of this road, a free Jacobean expedition on Saturday, February 22, leaving at 9:00 a.m. from the Plaza Mayor and arriving at the Church of San Jaime in Benidorm. 15 kilometers of Compostela route, without difficulty. It is recommended to bring comfortable clothing and shoes, water and some fruit or light snack to regain strength halfway through the journey.
Twelve years ago, l'Alfàs joined the Southeast Route of Alicante and opened a route allowing pilgrims to reach Santiago de Compostela from the municipality of Marina Baixa. The Alfàs City Council has organized in collaboration with the Association of Friends of the Camino de Santiago, a free Jacobean expedition, guided by the alfasino José Ángel García González, a member of the association and an expert in the field with more than 19 routes completed and around 6,000 kilometers traveled, who we see in the images together with the Councilor for Citizen Participation Rocío Guijarro and the Councilors for Sports José Plaza and Tourism Luis Morant in the presentation of the route. "We would like many people to join this Jacobean route. It is not difficult, the path is very pleasant, we are going to spend a morning sporting and show off a section of the Camino de Santiago full of attractions," said Tourism Councilor Luis Morant.
Although the road was opened twelve years ago at the initiative of the Association of Friends of the Camino de Santiago, with the support of the Alfàs City Council, many pilgrims will be unaware of its existence, explains José Ángel García, an unstoppable walker, a genuine expert on the Jacobean route, interested in showing the greatest number of people the beauty that the path hides, the smallest and most everyday details, "sharing something that cannot be paid for with money and that we have so close at hand." And José Ángel has traveled 6,000 kilometers along the length and breadth of the 19 routes completed. "Three times the Finisterra Muxía road, twice the French road, Lebaniego, El Salvador and Veracruz, and once the Northern, Portuguese, English, Primitive, Aragonese, Sanabrés, Southeast, and Pedronia roads. This without taking into account his forays as a mountaineer making a multitude of climbs that, although they have nothing to do with the expedition at hand, do have to do with the Alfasino pilgrim's fondness for nature and his knowledge of it.
