The 'Vertical Path' project: In a joint effort to revitalize and enhance the Jacobean routes of western Iberia, the 'Vertical Path' project has been presented, declared an Operation of Strategic Importance. The event, which took place in Badajoz, was attended by authorities such as Juan María Delfa, Deputy of the Rural Development, Demographic Challenge and Tourism Area, and Raquel del Puerto, First Vice President of the Badajoz Provincial Council. Representatives of provincial councils of Cádiz, Huelva and Córdoba, as well as the INORDE Institute and Portuguese entities, expressed their firm commitment to the project.
The 'Vertical Road' project seeks to give continuity to the 'Western Peninsular Jacobean Roads Project', with the ambitious objective of raising the recognition of these routes to the same level as the roads of northern Spain. Thus, it aims to develop the Mozarabic paths.
“We are going to work on the road that enters through Monterrubio de la Serena until it joins the Vía de la Plata in Mérida,” Delfa stated. In addition, it reinforced its objective of implementing a pedestrian walkway to cross the river that crosses the N-360. It is a unique route that traverses the rich history of Spain and Portugal in which “cross-border cooperation is essential.”
Likewise, Delfa highlighted the strategic importance of the project and the commitment of the Badajoz Provincial Council. "We want to generate a multiplier effect that involves the increase and multiplication of Jacobean paths, highlighting the territory's heritage and contributing to sustainable development," he stated.
Furthermore, it has highlighted the particularity of the western routes, characterized by their diversity and richness in shapes and colors, in contrast to the horizontality of the northern roads.
