Santiago, spiritual reference in the World: The Exercise of the Holy Via Crucis, considered an essential part of the rite of the Passion of Christ, starred this Saturday in a ceremony in the Cathedral of Santiago that will cross borders and will allow citizens from other latitudes to bring the fervor and spirituality with which Compostela residents and visitors live this tradition every year.
It will do it hand in hand with space World's Most Amazing Walks presented by the British actor and host Robson Green in the BBC, in an episode about the French Way. To do this, a team from the British public broadcaster has traveled to the Galician capital these days, and yesterday afternoon recorded inside the Cathedral the Holy Via Crucis presided over by the archbishop of Santiago, Monsignor Francisco José Prieto.
With all the brotherhoods of Santiago
A ceremony in which representatives of all the brotherhoods of Compostela, and in which the current president of the Board of Brotherhoods of Holy Week of Santiago, Elena Bernárdez, gave the attendees some glimpses of what this Catholic rite represents within the multiple acts that make up the Easter week in the Galician capital.
Although at first it was planned that the procession of the Exercise of the Holy Via Crucis through the historic center would be recorded, it was finally limited to the interior of the cathedral temple as a result of the rain, who also did not want to miss this special opportunity to cross borders.
The British program team opted for this tradition due to its strong symbolic and spiritual charge, as a way of representing the more human and religious dimension of the Jacobean Route. Not in vain, it will be included in an episode dedicated to Path French, the best known worldwide, to convey to the viewers of this production of international scope its heritage, cultural and liturgical value. An installment in which Robson Green will share his personal experience traveling sections of this ancient itinerary.
Floral carpet and blessing of bouquets today in A Quintana
The Compostela Church will celebrate this Palm Sunday with the traditional Procession of the Borriquita and the later Blessing of Palms in Praza da Quintana starting at 11:15 a.m., giving way later to the seasonal mass presided over by the Archbishop of Santiago, Monsignor Francisco José Prieto, at twelve noon in the Cathedral.
On a day in which children usually have a great role carrying their palms, A Quintana will be decorated with an impressive floral rug made by the Corpus Christi Carpet Makers Association of Ponteareas.
Invited by the Board of Brotherhoods and the Archbishopric of Santiago for this occasion, they will create a carpet that will have as its central motif the image of Jesus riding a donkey, highlighting the red of the carnations around it, like an allegory of the Cross of Santiago, and surrounded by palm trees.
