Camino de Santiago in the Czech Republic: About thirty localities claim the historical connection of the Bohemian region, in the Czech Republic, with the Jacobean route, the traditional pilgrimage itinerary to the tomb of the apostle Saint James in Compostela, through the project "The Camino de Santiago from Broumov to Kutná Hora."
"During 2023 and 2024, we have installed a total of 35 Jacobean milestones between Broumov and Kutná Hora," the Santiago Pilgrims Center of the Czech NGO 'Orel' (The Eagle) explained in a statement.
The project involves 30 towns and municipalities in the regions of Hradec Králové and Pardubice, as well as the historic town of Kutná Hora in central Bohemia, known for its silver mines and its church dedicated to the Apostle James. From there, the route continues towards the south of the country.
"Pilgrims and tourists can find Jacobean stamps in almost all the towns along the way," said 'Orel'.
In addition to the markers, a stone shell of St. James has been placed next to the church of St. James in Prelouc, east of Prague, and a thematic bench in a forest near Semín.
"The pilgrimage to Santiago is one of the best examples of how much we Europeans share: history, culture, values and principles," said the Spanish ambassador to the Czech Republic, María Pérez.
"The Camino has linked the Iberian Peninsula with Europe since the Middle Ages, including the Czech and Moravian lands," stressed the diplomat cited by 'Orel' in a statement.
