Agalber Alert of Cancellations on the Camino de Santiago due to Misinformation about the Fires
GALICIA, Spain – The Galician Association of Private Hostels (Agalber) has launched an alert regarding the indirect impact that the wave of fires in Galicia is having on the tourism sector of the Camino de Santiago. According to the association, fear and misinformation are causing a wave of cancellations in private hostels, despite the fact that most sections of the Camino are open and passable.

From Agalber They explain that they are receiving calls from pilgrims who cancel their reservations due to the mistaken belief that the entire route is closed or affected by fire. “We receive calls and cancellations from people who believe that the entire Camino is closed or affected, when in reality most of the sections are open, passable and without any risk,” the entity points out.
Given this situation, the association asks pilgrims to seek information responsibly and to contact the shelters directly to find out the real situation in each area. They insist that the fire situation is changing and that generalization generates unnecessary alarm that seriously harms small businesses.
«We are in contact with each other, we share information and we know perfectly well which sections are open or which may be affected. Before canceling, we recommend consulting directly with the hostel,” they point out from Agalber, remembering that the Camino de Santiago is a fundamental driver for sustainable tourism in Galicia.
