The Franciscan Way Advances: Key Meetings with Municipalities to Promote the Jacobean Route
The Via Franciscana Jacobean Route is taking firm steps towards its consolidation, with a series of meetings between promoters and municipalities to detail its implementation.
During the week of March 31 to April 4, 2025, representatives of the Association of Friends of the Camino de Santiago 'TAU' and the first deputy mayor of the Chipiona City Council met with officials from the municipalities of Trebujena, Lebrija, Coria del Río, Palomares del Río and Camas.
The objective of these meetings is fundamental: to obtain official approval from the 10 municipalities that the route crosses. According to Sema Miranda, president of the 'TAU' Association, the plenary approval of each city council is crucial to achieve the federation of the association. Miranda also stressed the importance of the commitment of local governments in signaling the section of the route that runs through their territory.
During the recent visits, the authorities of the five municipalities showed their interest and willingness to actively collaborate in the project. The route, which extends from Chipiona to the Sevillian town of Camas, was previously presented to all the town councils involved in an event held in Chipiona.
The Franciscan Way aspires to be much more than a simple religious path. The project seeks to establish itself as a comprehensive resource, integrating tourist-cultural activities linked to sports practice, such as cycling, hiking, athletics and other modalities. The proposed itinerary, which will link Chipiona with the Puente de la Señorita in Camas (starting point of the Vía de la Plata of the Camino de Santiago), is divided into six stages over approximately 115 kilometers.
Laura Román, first deputy mayor and Sports delegate of the Chipiona City Council, detailed the key components of the project, including the designation of those responsible, the planning of actions, the structure by stages, the objectives, the work methodology, the schedule of activities and the benefits that the route promises to bring in the tourism, sports and health fields.
In short, the Via Franciscana Jacobean Route is emerging as a multifaceted itinerary, which harmonizes the spiritual component with a range of tourist, cultural and sports proposals.
