Good news for pilgrims on the Camino de Santiago: Correos once again offers its Paq Backpack service, facilitating the journey without the weight of luggage. From today, those who walk the Portuguese Way from A Guarda and Tui, including the Spiritual Variant, will be able to hire this daily transport service for backpacks and suitcases from one accommodation to another.
But it is not the only way in which it is available. It can also be used on the French Way from Roncesvalles and Somport, the Northern Way from Irún, the Primitive Way from Oviedo, the English Way from Ferrol, the Vía de la Plata-Camino Sanabrés from Ourense, the Winter Way from Ponferrada and the Way to Fisterra and Muxía.
The operation is simple: the postman collects the luggage at the indicated accommodation starting at 8:00 in the morning and delivers it to the next destination before 2:30 p.m. Contracting is done online through www.elcaminoconcorreos.com, where the form is available in nine languages. In addition to the Paq Backpack, Correos offers other specific services to facilitate the trip. With the Paq Peregrino, walkers can send suitcases and packages to any point along the Camino, either from their home or from accommodations en route.
For those who prefer bicycles, the Bicycle Package allows them to be sent to the beginning of the tour or back home at the end of the adventure.
And when you arrive in Santiago, Correos offers a left luggage service at the office at Rúa do Franco, 4, two minutes from Plaza del Obradoiro, available every day from 8:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. It also has a service point at the Pilgrim's Office, on Rúa Carretas, open from Monday to Friday.
All information about these and other services is available at www.elcaminoconcorreos.com, where pilgrims can also find more than 4,000 accommodations, guides to the main Jacobean routes and more than 300 useful tips from expert postmen on the Camino.
