The Camino del Infante de Antequera is chosen as the Best Southern Jacobean Route in the 2025 Tourism Excellence Awards
He Camino de Santiago del Infante de Antequera has been distinguished as Best Southern Jacobean Route in the delivery of the Tourism Excellence Awards 2025, a recognition that highlights the work carried out to recover and consolidate this historic Jacobean itinerary that connects Andalusia with the great routes to Santiago de Compostela.
The ceremony took place at Auditorium of the Picasso Museum in Malaga, in an event held in the afternoon-evening that brought together institutional representatives, professionals from the tourism and cultural sector, as well as entities linked to the world of the Camino de Santiago. The event had a notable national and international projection, consolidating itself as one of the most important events on the annual tourist calendar.
The jury highlighted the Camino del Infante's ability to unite history, heritage, spirituality and territorial development, recovering the route followed in the 15th century by the Infante Don Fernando de Antequera on his journey to northern lands. This Jacobean route today allows pilgrims to travel through Andalusian landscapes of great natural value, cross municipalities with a rich historical legacy and live an authentic pilgrimage experience in a less crowded environment than other traditional routes.
During the delivery ceremony, the joint effort of Jacobean associations, town councils and volunteers who have worked on the signage, historical documentation and promotion of this path was highlighted, turning it into a solid and increasingly well-known alternative within the route network of the Camino de Santiago.

Recognition as the Best Southern Jacobean Route is a decisive boost for the consolidation of this itinerary, favoring cultural and religious tourism in the interior of Andalusia and helping to boost the local economy of the towns through which it runs. At the same time, it reinforces the value of the Camino as a backbone of the territory and as a meeting space between cultures and traditions.
The organization of the awards stressed that this award not only distinguishes a physical layout, but also a human project based on hospitality, the recovery of heritage and respect for the environment. The Camino del Infante de Antequera has been able to integrate these values into its proposal, offering the pilgrim an experience where walking becomes a cultural and personal journey.
With this recognition, the Camino de Santiago del Infante de Antequera is positioned as one of the most relevant Jacobean routes in the south of the peninsula, reinforcing its prestige inside and outside of Spain and consolidating itself as a reference for those looking for a Camino with history, tranquility and a strong Andalusian identity.
