The City Council is looking for a new entity to manage the historic municipal hostel
He Logroño City Council has officially put out to tender the management of the Municipal Pilgrims' Hostel and the well-known Fielato Tourist Information Point, two of the most important spaces for welcoming walkers on the French Camino de Santiago as it passes through La Rioja.
The measure represents an important change in the management model of the municipal hostel, which in recent years had been managed by the Rioja Association of Friends of the Camino de Santiago through annual collaboration agreements. Now, the Logroño council is committed to a public procedure of competitive participation adapted to the new municipal regulations.
A new model for one of the key points of the French Way
The municipal hostel of Logroño is one of the most emblematic places on the Camino de Santiago in La Rioja and one of the main resting points for thousands of international pilgrims who travel the French Way each year towards Santiago de Compostela.
Located on the historic Ruavieja street, next to the old town of Logroño, the hostel receives pilgrims from all over the world and is part of the Jacobean heart of the Riojan capital. The Camino enters the city crossing the Stone Bridge and continues through some of the most historic and tourist streets in the city.

The new document contemplates a four-year concession, with the possibility of additional extension, and will be aimed exclusively at non-profit entities with proven experience in the management of pilgrim hostels or projects linked to the Camino de Santiago.
In addition, interested organizations must demonstrate the ability to coordinate hospital workers, volunteer staff and specialized reception systems for national and international pilgrims.
Almost 10,000 pilgrims used the hostel last year
The Logroño City Council highlights the strategic importance of the hostel within Santiago's Riojan tourism. According to municipal data, the Municipal Pilgrims' Hostel registered nearly 9,800 users last year, while the Fielato Tourist Information Point served more than 9,300 visitors.
These figures reflect the enormous economic and tourist impact that the Camino de Santiago continues to have in Logroño and throughout La Rioja, especially in sectors such as hospitality, rural tourism, restaurants and local commerce.
The international boom of the Camino de Santiago continues to attract travelers from the United States, Germany, South Korea, Italy and Australia, many of whom stop in Logroño to enjoy Riojan cuisine, the atmosphere of the historic center and the wine culture.
Hospitality, one of the great values of the Camino
The hospitality model continues to be one of the elements most valued by pilgrims who travel the French Way. For this reason, the new competition seeks to guarantee that the reception maintains the traditional Jacobean spirit based on help, coexistence and support for the walker.
The management of the hostel not only involves accommodation, but also cultural orientation, human attention and integration of the pilgrim within the experience of the Camino de Santiago.
In recent years, many municipalities along the Camino are renewing their infrastructure and management systems to adapt to the constant growth of pilgrims and the new demands of cultural and sustainable tourism.

Logroño reinforces its role as a Jacobean city
The capital of Rioja continues to consolidate itself as one of the great cities of the French Way thanks to its combination of historical heritage, wine culture, gastronomy and Jacobean tradition.
The implementation of this new management process also coincides with the growth of experiential tourism and international interest in European pilgrimage routes.
The City Council hopes that the new award will make it possible to further improve the attention to pilgrims and reinforce the image of Logroño as one of the great references of the Camino de Santiago in the north of Spain.
