Lugo transforms the entrance to the Camino Primitivo and puts an end to the so-called “tunnel of terror”
The city of lugo has taken a decisive step to improve the experience of pilgrims who travel the Primitive Path, with the comprehensive transformation of one of its most problematic accesses. The action puts an end to what is known as the “tunnel of terror,” a dark and unwelcoming stretch that for years generated insecurity and a bad first impression for those who came to the city on foot.
The works have made it possible to turn this black spot into a more safe, accessible and friendly, adapted to both pilgrims and residents. The intervention includes improvements in lighting, the urban environment and landscape integration, with the aim of dignifying the entrance to one of the oldest and most emblematic Jacobean routes.

From the municipal level it is highlighted that this action not only responds to a historical demand from walkers, but is also part of a broader strategy to highlight the Primitive Way as a cultural, tourist and heritage resource. The improvement of access reinforces the image of Lugo as a welcoming city committed to the responsible conservation and modernization of the Camino de Santiago.
With this transformation, Lugo eliminates a conflict point and moves towards a city model that takes care of the details of the Camino, offering pilgrims an arrival more in line with the values of hospitality, safety and respect that characterize the Jacobean experience.
