BREAKING NEWS! Detained Alleged Murderer Wanted by the US on the Camino de Santiago
Santiago de Compostela. Agents of the Santiago Police Station of the National Police Corps have managed to arrest Gerelys Sánchez-Reyes, a 28-year-old woman of Dominican nationality, who was wanted and captured in USA as the alleged perpetrator of the murder of another woman in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The operation, which ended this Thursday, was carried out in the boarding area of the Rosalía de Castro airport, in Lavacolla, at the gates of Santiago de Compostela.
Sánchez-Reyes is accused of having killed Yuleisy Torrelles Martínez, a 21-year-old Venezuelan dancer, and having hidden his body on a sofa in his home. The body was discovered last April, at which point the US authorities began an intense search, eventually offering a $20,000 reward for information leading to his whereabouts.

Citizen Collaboration and Thorough Research
It has been precisely the citizen collaboration the key piece that put the National Police on the trail of the fugitive. More than two months ago, a person warned of the possible presence of the woman in Santiago de Compostela or its surroundings. Immediately, agents from the Santiago Police Station verified the identity of the identified person, confirming that it corresponded to the alleged murderer wanted by the United States justice system.
For weeks, investigators closely followed Sánchez-Reyes's movements. The alarm went off again last Thursday, when the agents verified that the suspect was preparing to board a bus bound for the Rosalía de Castro airport.
Arrest in the Boarding Area
Given this imminent escape, an arrest warrant was urgently requested through Interpol. The response was almost instantaneous: in a matter of minutes, the order arrived from the United States through the National Court, as confirmed by police sources to EL CORREO GALLEGO.
The Compostela agents acted quickly, proceeding to arrest of Sanchez-Reyes in the same boarding area from the airport. The woman intended to get on a flight to Brussels (Belgium), a move that investigators managed to thwart in time.
This arrest underlines the effectiveness of international collaboration and the importance of citizen information in the pursuit of justice, even when crimes transcend borders.
