Pilgrims through Cantabria will join the event that will take place on June 21 with verses from one of its partners, Carlos Agudo
There are places that impress with their beauty. Others for their history. And some, very few, manage to excite even before reaching them. The Montesclaros Canyon belongs to that special category of corners capable of leaving a mark on those who see them for the first time.
On June 21, Campoo Sur will experience a day full of emotion with the inauguration of the new path that facilitates access to one of the most unique natural monuments in Cantabria. Located next to the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Montesclaros, the enormous sandstone rock that dominates the landscape from the top of the hill has become over the years one of the great natural and sentimental symbols of the region.

The opening of this new hiking route represents an important improvement for nature tourism, hiking, cultural heritage and outdoor experiences, allowing neighbors, visitors, pilgrims and mountain lovers to approach with greater comfort a place that for generations has aroused admiration and respect.
But the day of June 21 will be much more than an inauguration. It will also be a tribute to memory, culture and love for the land. During the event, a commemorative plaque will be unveiled that will include a poem dedicated to this impressive rock formation, an initiative promoted by the Pilgrims for Cantabria Association.
The association, known for its work in promoting historical paths, heritage, cultural tourism and the values of the Camino de Santiago in Cantabria, wanted to pay tribute to one of the most emblematic landscapes in the region. Its objective is that those who come to this enclave in the future will not only contemplate a spectacular panorama, but also learn about the history, emotion and meaning that this place has for so many people.
In addition, Pilgrims for Cantabria will be in charge of making the poetic contribution during the event, providing one of the most emotional moments of the day. An initiative that unites nature, culture, hiking, rural tourism and love for the territory in the same project.
The chosen poem bears the signature of Carlos Agudo Solana, an author deeply linked to the Campurrian land and whose sensitivity has been able to capture the essence of this monumental rock that has watched over the valley since time immemorial.

Its composition not only describes a unique geological formation. It talks about identity, landscape, memory and the relationship that exists between people and those places that end up being part of their lives. His verses will now accompany the rock that for centuries has silently observed the passage of neighbors, travelers, pilgrims and pilgrims.
The poem that will be forever linked to the Montesclaros Canyon says like this:
CANYON ROCK
That rock that looks like a canyon
and from above, Señera dominates
It does not appear on the shield or flag
nor in the arms of any noble coat of arms.
The pilgrims who go there on an excursion
off-road or on the highway,
They touch the stone, of the shallow Heaven
that they carved together time and erosion.
Sentinel with impassive countenance
of the Lord's castle on its battlement,
this rock deserves someone to sing to it
his silhouette against the full moon
and some verses to the most faithful watchman
of the Sanctuary on a serene hill.
Carlos Agudo Solana
From the top where this gigantic rock stands, the views allow you to see a good part of the heart of Campoo. A landscape of mountains, forests, towns and paths that turn this corner into one of the great tourist treasures of Cantabria and a destination increasingly appreciated by hikers, photographers, pilgrims and nature lovers.
The placement of this plaque aims to leave a permanent mark on one of the most beloved places in the region. A simple gesture, but loaded with meaning, that unites natural heritage, popular culture, sustainable tourism and collective memory.

Next June 21, when neighbors, pilgrims and visitors gather in Montesclaros to celebrate this initiative, the rock will continue to watch over the valley as it has done for centuries. But from that day on it will also forever guard the verses of Carlos Agudo Solana and the memory of an initiative born from the affection of the Pilgrims for Cantabria Association towards one of the most emblematic and exciting landscapes of Cantabria.
