Álvaro Lazaga, a Record Pilgrim: 50,000 Kilometers on Foot to Santiago
The Madrid pilgrim Alvaro Lazaga has marked an extraordinary milestone by completing 50,000 kilometers walking tours on the different routes of the Camino de Santiago. Since it premiered in 2010, Lazaga has not stopped, completing 61 pilgrimages to Santiago de Compostela and currently being en route to its 62nd Compostela.
The 50,000 kilometer milestone occurred during its current route, specifically when passing through Segovia.
Lazaga, who lives in Benidorm, has become a voice of authority on the Camino, which he travels up to three times a year. In 2026, for example, he already has two national routes planned and probably one international route, considering options such as Le Puy-en-Velay (France) or even Rome, demonstrating that his passion remains intact: "I live it every time as if it were the first."

The article mentions that the Camino de Invierno is one of Lazaga's favorite routes, highlighting its beauty and its passage through the Lemos region of Lugo.
Álvaro Lazaga often documents his travels; The following video shows part of his journey: Camino 61 Madrid October 2025 Part 3: From Mataelpino to Cercedilla.
