A Ponte Maceira: A Galician treasure frozen in time and key to the Camino de Santiago
To Ponte Maceira, a small enclave located just 17 kilometers from Santiago de Compostela, is recognized as one of the most beautiful towns in Spain, although its charm lies, paradoxically, in its simplicity. This corner, located between the municipalities of Ames and Negreira, lacks major tourist infrastructure, which contributes to its old-time atmosphere.
The town is a crucial crossing point for pilgrims that complete the Camino de Santiago bound for Fisterra.

Heritage: Medieval bridge and centenary granaries
The historic heart of A Ponte Maceira is its iconic stone bridge about him Tambre River. Initially built between 13th and 14th centuries On Roman foundations and renovated in the 18th century, the bridge is distinguished by its five stone arches and its two spillway arches.
In addition to the bridge, the landscape is completed with:
- Granaries: These traditional elevated stone and wood constructions, formerly used to store grain, are perfectly integrated into the environment, far from being mere museum pieces.
- Other Monuments: The village houses the Romanesque church of Santa María de Portor (12th century), the Chapel of San Brais, the Pazo de Baladrón and an old dam with two mills.

Nature and Recognition
Beyond its architecture, A Ponte Maceira offers nature in its purest form. Its surroundings are full of trails that pass through forests, meadows and small waterfalls, making it an ideal destination for rural tourism and photography.
The quality of its heritage was officially recognized in 2019, when he joined the association of The Most Beautiful Towns in Spain. It was the first town in the province of A Coruña and the third in Galicia to obtain this distinction.
