TO ESCRAVITUDE (PADRÓN) – O Camino de Santiago He returned to demonstrate that he is much more than a pilgrimage tour. It is a space of encounter, solidarity and inclusiveness. Or project “Path to Inclusion”, promoted pela AMIPA (Associação de Mães e Pais de Pessoas con Deficiência Intelectual de Padrón), closed its edition this year with an exciting intercultural encounter held in To Escravitude, not the municipality of Padrón.

For several months, on an initiative, I brought together people of different nationalities, cultures and abilities, using the Caminho de Santiago as a tool to promote coexistence, or respect for equal opportunities.

Much more than a walk

The project was born with a clear objective: to demonstrate that the Caminho can be an accessible place for everyone, where the differences between being barriers and becoming a wealth.

Throughout the activities, participants will take walks, offices, cultural experiences and moments of coexistence that will strengthen the ties between people of different origins.

The result was much more than a social program.

It was an experience of human growth.

Um I found some emotion

The lockdown event brought together participants, families, volunteers and representatives of various entities in an environment marked by joy, music and party.

Between hugs, smiles and life stories, it is evident that the true spirit of the Caminho de Santiago continues to live in initiatives that promote even solidarity.

Many participants will highlight that most importantly they are not the kilometers traveled, but the friendships built during the project.

The Caminho as a union point

The Caminho de Santiago continues to be one of two places where people from different countries, religions, cultures and communities walk side by side with a common goal.

Projects like Path to Inclusion We show that this millennial revolution can also serve to overturn preconceptions, promote equality and create opportunities for people with intellectual disabilities to participate fully in social life.

Each stage is transformed into a space of learning, respect and cooperation.

Even through coexistence

During the program, participants will have the opportunity to learn more about Galician culture, share traditions from their countries of origin and discover that, despite the differences, there are universal values that unite all people.

Hospitality, companionship and mutual help, characteristics that are present on Caminho de Santiago, are the guide of all initiatives.

An example for the future

The success of the project reinforces the importance of continuing to develop initiatives that use the Caminho de Santiago as a tool for social integration.

In a world where there are still many barriers, experiences like this show that it even starts with small gestures: walk together, walk together and respect each person as they do.

The true spirit of the Road

When the meeting ended, there was certainty among all the participants.

The Caminho de Santiago hardly approximates the people of Santiago de Compostela.

Approximate people one day after another.

And perhaps this is the most meaningful part of this experience: when we walk together, there are no differences big enough to prevent friendship, solidarity and hope.
