The Caminito del Rey, often compared to the Camino de Santiago, offers one of the most spectacular walking experiences in Europe

Spain is home to some of the world's most famous walking routes, and while the Camino de Santiago remains the country's best-known pilgrimage, another extraordinary trail continues to captivate adventure lovers from around the globe.

The Cking's aminite, Located in the province of Málaga, it has been described as one of Spain's most spectacular hiking routes thanks to its dramatic walkways suspended high above the Gaitanes Gorge gorge.

The route stretches for nearly eight kilometers through one of Andalusia's most impressive natural landscapes.

Visitors walk along narrow wooden platforms attached directly to the vertical rock walls while enjoying breathtaking views over deep canyons carved by the Guadalhorce River.

In some sections, the surrounding cliffs rise to almost 400 meters, creating an unforgettable experience for anyone brave enough to look over the edge.

From the world's most dangerous path…

For many years, the Caminito del Rey was known as one of the world's most dangerous walkways.

Built in the early twentieth century for workers maintaining hydroelectric facilities, the path gradually fell into disrepair. Several fatal accidents led authorities to close the route completely in the early 2000s.

Following an extensive restoration project, the trail officially reopened in 2015, combining modern safety standards with the preservation of its historic character.

Today, visitors can safely enjoy the route while experiencing the same dramatic scenery that made the Caminito famous worldwide.

A different journey from the Camino de Santiago

Although the Caminito del Rey and the Camino de Santiago offer completely different experiences, both share one important characteristic: they invite visitors to slow down and appreciate Spain's extraordinary landscapes.

The Camino is a spiritual and cultural pilgrimage followed by hundreds of thousands of walkers every year.

The Caminito, meanwhile, is an adventure through cliffs, suspension bridges and spectacular geological formations that attracts hikers looking for unforgettable scenery.

Together, they represent two very different but equally remarkable ways of discovering Spain on foot.

A destination growing in popularity

Thanks to its stunning location and careful restoration, the Caminito del Rey has become one of Andalusia's leading outdoor attractions.

Advance booking is usually recommended, especially during the busiest travel months, as thousands of visitors travel each year to experience what many describe as one of Europe's most spectacular cliffside walks.

Whether you choose the peaceful spirituality of the Camino de Santiago or the adrenaline-filled views of the Caminito del Rey, Spain continues to offer unforgettable routes for every kind of walker.
