The Municipal Pilgrims' Hostel opens improvements to offer a more comfortable and modern welcome on the Camino de Santiago

The pilgrims who travel the French Way They now once again have one of the most important public accommodations on the Jacobean route. He Municipal Pilgrims Hostel of Logroño, located on the historic Ruavieja street, has reopened its doors after several months of improvement works aimed at modernizing the facilities and offering a more comfortable stay to the thousands of walkers who cross the capital of Rioja every year on their way to Santiago de Compostela.

The reopening comes at one of the busiest times for pilgrims. With summer already underway and thousands of people organizing their stages to reach Santiago in the coming weeks, the hostel once again becomes a fundamental stop on the Camino de Santiago.

From the first hours of opening the first walkers began to arrive. Some took the opportunity to rest after the stage, while others went out to discover the historic center of Logroño, famous for its heritage, its gastronomy and the atmosphere of Laurel Street.

A renovation to improve the pilgrim experience

The works have involved a complete overhaul of the building, focusing especially on the interior of the hostel.

The main floors and common areas have been painted, doors and windows have been repaired and lacquered, in addition to restoring the railings on terraces and stairs to improve both the image and security of the building.

Important actions have also been carried out on the exterior, such as the repair and glazing of the main access door from Ruavieja Street, the door to the interior patio and the metal bars that surround the property. All of this contributes to preserving one of the most representative historical buildings of the Jacobean route through Logroño.

The investment allocated to these actions has exceeded 29,000 euros, financed with European funds aimed at improving public and tourist infrastructure.

68 places to continue welcoming pilgrims

After the renovation, the hostel is once again operating at full capacity with its 68 places available, ready to receive the walkers who arrive daily in the city.

The accommodation maintains its traditional philosophy of Jacobean hospitality, offering a comfortable, clean space designed to facilitate rest after a long day walking.

In addition to providing accommodation, the hostel continues to be a meeting point where pilgrims from different countries share experiences, advice on the next stages and moments of coexistence that are part of the essence of the Camino de Santiago.

New management for a new stage

Another of the most important developments is the change in the management of the hostel.

From now on, the Spanish Federation of Associations of Friends of the Camino de Santiago will be in charge of managing both the Municipal Hostel and the Fielato Tourist Information Point, located next to the Stone Bridge.

The federation has extensive experience in welcoming pilgrims and currently participates in the management of numerous hostels distributed along different Jacobean routes in Spain.

Those responsible have explained that their priority will be to offer a close welcome and keep the traditional spirit of the Camino alive.

Among the planned initiatives is welcoming pilgrims with fresh water, fruit and information about the city and the main services available before accompanying them through the facilities.

Logroño, an essential stop on the French Way

The capital of Rioja continues to be one of the most appreciated stages for those who travel the French Way.

Its old town, the Santa María de la Redonda co-cathedral, the church of Santiago, the Puente de Piedra and the popular Laurel street make the city a very special stop for thousands of national and international pilgrims.

Every year, tens of thousands of walkers cross Logroño attracted not only by its historical heritage, but also by its hospitality, its gastronomy and the quality of its tourist services.

The reopening of the hostel is an important boost for the city, especially during the summer months, when the number of pilgrims seeking public accommodation increases significantly before continuing on their way to Burgos, León and finally Santiago de Compostela.

The Camino continues to grow

The Camino de Santiago is experiencing one of the best moments in its history.

The constant increase in pilgrims makes it essential to maintain the network of public and private hostels in perfect condition, which constitute one of the fundamental pillars of the Jacobean experience.

The renovation of the Logroño Municipal Shelter responds precisely to this need to offer modern, accessible facilities prepared to serve thousands of people from all over the world.

With this reopening, Logroño recovers one of its main symbols of hospitality and reinforces its commitment to the Camino de Santiago, an itinerary that continues to unite culture, tourism, heritage, nature and coexistence between people from different countries.
