The new coastal layout reinforces the Jacobean offer and is committed to a sustainable and seasonally adjusted model next to the sea
Galicia wants the sea to also be the Way. The Xunta of Galicia aims to consolidate the 53 stages of the Camino do Litoral as a fully operational and passable alternative throughout the year, thus expanding the network of Jacobean routes and reinforcing the connection between pilgrimage and the Atlantic landscape.
This coastal itinerary seeks to highlight kilometers of Galician coastline by combining nature, heritage, seafaring tradition and spirituality. The initiative not only aims to diversify the offer of Camino de Santiago, but also to better distribute the flows of pilgrims and promote the deseasonalization of tourism.

A road looking at the Atlantic
The Camino do Litoral offers a different experience from the more established routes. Here the pilgrim advances with the sound of the sea as a constant companion, crossing beaches, cliffs, fishing villages and open landscapes that change according to the light and the tide. It is a Path of broad horizons, where the ocean becomes a silent guide.
The Xunta's proposal contemplates that the 53 stages can be traveled in adequate conditions throughout the year, something that requires clear signage, continuous maintenance and coordination with the municipalities involved. The objective is for the route to be not only a summer option, but a solid, safe and attractive route also in autumn and winter.
Territorial development and sustainability
Beyond the spiritual component, the impulse of the Camino do Litoral has an obvious economic dimension. The coastal route can energize small towns, generate opportunities for rural accommodation, restaurants and services linked to active tourism, and reinforce the local fabric.
The commitment to this itinerary also responds to a sustainability strategy. Diversifying routes helps reduce pressure on more crowded sections and allows the impact of tourism to be distributed in a more balanced way throughout the Galician territory.
A new chapter of the Camino
Galicia continues to reinvent its Jacobean network without losing its essence. With the Camino do Litoral, the pilgrimage adds a new story: that of the sea as a traveling companion. An invitation to walk with your feet on the ground and your eyes on the horizon.
If the project reaches full consolidation, Galicia will not only expand its route map, but will reinforce its leadership as a pilgrim destination capable of combining tradition, innovation and respect for the environment.
