Digitalization reaches the hostels on the Camino de Santiago
The Camino de Santiago continues to advance in its adaptation to technology. More than 80,000 pilgrims already use the Pilgrim Pass application in hostels on different Jacobean routes, a tool that seeks to modernize the welcome without losing the essence of the Camino.
The app, promoted by Jacobean associations, responds to a clear need: to facilitate the registration of pilgrims and improve management in the hostels, especially at times of high influx.
Less waiting and more agility in shelters
One of the main objectives of Pilgrim Pass is to streamline the arrival process at the lodges.
Until now, the registration of pilgrims was done manually, which in many cases generated queues and waits, especially in high season.
With this app:
- The record is digitized
- Waiting times are reduced
- Internal organization is improved
All of this allows hospitaleros and pilgrims to focus on what is important: the experience of the Camino.

A free tool for shelters
The application is offered free of charge to hostels that wish to use it, with a small maintenance fee to ensure its operation and updating.
This model facilitates its expansion and allows more and more establishments to join the system.
Technology without losing the essence of the Camino
One of the key aspects of the project is that it does not seek to replace the traditional model of the Camino, but rather to complement it.
The digital system coexists with:
- The traditional welcome
- The human treatment
- The model of jacobean hospitality
The objective is not to transform the Camino into something technological, but to adapt it to current needs without losing its identity.

The Camino is modernizing little by little
The use of applications on the Camino is not new. There are tools to plan routes, consult shelters or even stamp digital credentials.
For example, some apps allow you to obtain stamps using QR codes or manage the pilgrim's digital credential.
Pilgrim Pass joins this evolution, but focused on a key point: arrival at the lodge.
More control and better experience
In addition to facilitating registration, these types of tools help to comply with current regulations regarding traveler control.
At the same time, they improve the experience of the pilgrim, who can access their accommodation more quickly after a day of walking.
A growing project
The number of users, which already exceeds 80,000 pilgrims, reflects the rapid implementation of the tool on the Camino.
In addition, the promoters of the project are working to expand agreements with more shelters and institutions, with the aim of consolidating its use throughout the Jacobean territory.
The balance between tradition and technology
The Camino de Santiago is experiencing a moment of transformation.
More and more pilgrims use mobile applications to find their way, plan or share their experience.
However, the challenge remains the same:
👉 modernize without losing the essence
Pilgrim Pass represents precisely that balance.
A more agile Way… but just as human
Digitization does not change the direction of the Camino, but it can improve its operation.
Reducing waits, facilitating processes and improving organization are advances that, properly applied, can benefit both pilgrims and hospital workers.
The Camino evolves.
But it is still the Way.
