The award recognizes the dissemination of the Camino and focuses on the historical milestones of the route
Burgos is once again located in the center of the Camino de Santiago with the celebration of Aymeric Picaud International Prize 2026, a recognition that highlights the research and dissemination work of the Jacobean route.
Between May 22 and 24, the city will host a series of activities linked to the Camino, with a double objective: to pay tribute to key figures of the Jacobean world and to reinforce knowledge of the main milestones of the Camino as it passes through the province.
Francisco Singul, protagonist of the award
The award, in its 13th edition, will be given to the art historian Francisco Singul, one of the most recognized voices in the study of the Camino de Santiago.
His work has been key to bringing knowledge of the French Way to the general public, combining academic research with accessible dissemination.
Furthermore, his career includes specialized publications, curating exhibitions and participating in projects linked to Jacobean culture, consolidating him as a reference in the international arena.

A prize with history on the Camino
The Aymeric Picaud Prize is not just any award. His name refers to the author of the Codex Calixtinus, considered the first guide to the Camino de Santiago in the 12th century.
This codex included:
- routes
- tips
- key places
and laid the foundations of modern pilgrimage.
Therefore, the award not only recognizes people, but a tradition of knowledge and cultural transmission that is still alive today.
The recognition also includes the delivery of a facsimile of the Codex Calixtinus itself, a symbol of the historical legacy of the Camino.
Burgos, key in the Jacobean route
The choice of Burgos is not accidental.
The city is one of the most important points of the French Way, a route declared a World Heritage Site and one of the main cultural itineraries in Europe.
For centuries, Burgos has been an obligatory passage for pilgrims, and today it continues to be one of the most representative enclaves of the Camino in Spain.
Activities beyond the prize
The event is not limited to the award ceremony.
During those days, cultural activities and experiences linked to the Camino will be developed, including guided tours, meetings between experts and tours of emblematic places such as Castrojeriz.
A broader vision of the Camino will also be promoted, showing not only its spiritual dimension, but also its cultural, historical and tourist value.
The Camino as a living story
One of the key messages of the event is clear:
👉 The Camino de Santiago is not just a route
It is a story built over centuries.
A space where they coexist:
history,
culture,
personal experience
And where each pilgrim is part of that story.

A recognition of the present and the future
The Aymeric Picaud Award also reflects a current reality.
The Camino continues to grow, adapt and attract new profiles of pilgrims.
But at the same time, it needs to maintain its essence.
Therefore, recognizing those who study, protect and disseminate its history is key to its future.
Burgos reinforces its position on the Camino
With this event, Burgos not only hosts an award.
Reinforces its role as a strategic point in the Camino de Santiago 2026, positioning itself as a cultural reference within the route.
A mandatory stop not only for walking…
👉 but also to understand the Way
