5 Camí Routes to Escape the Crowds

5 Camí Routes to Escape the Crowds

Amb el most popular sections del Camí Francès i Portuguese routes, Espanya està extraordinariament Camí routes where it és possible per a venir per hores per a company, discover males villages i experiència a molt quieter pilgrimage.

Per a many people, the image of the Camí de Sant Jaume has changed.

The final 100 quilòmetres of the Camí Francès, especialment between Sarria and Santiago, atraient large numbers of pilgrims every year.

Però aquest és un camí.

Espanya és encreuada per una xarxa històrica de pilgrimage routes, i severament de l'est ofereix una mica que molts moderns pilgrims són actius searching for: space, silence and slower way of walking.

Here are five Camí routes worth considerant if you want to escape the crowds.

El route traditionally leaves el Francès around Ponferrada i heads through the landscapes of El Bierzo and southern Galícia per joining the final approach towards Santiago.

Its name menges from its historical purpose.

Pilgrims could use aquest route to avoid the difficult winter conditions of the mountains around O Cebreiro.

Totay, its attraction is different.

It offers spectacular landscapes, vineyards, river valleys, historic villages and considerable fewer pilgrims than the Camí Francès.

Per a walkers per solucionar-se sense good good cultural and natural interest, és un dels mostos interesting choices.

2. Camí Sanabrés

The Camí Sanabrés is another route where the Camí can still feel remarkably quiet.

It develops from the Via de la Plata and enters Galícia through the southeast before continuing towards Santiago.

Walking here can feel completely different from arriving in Sarria durant la high season.

Some days, you mai meet only a handful of other pilgrims.

That solitude is precisely what attracts many people.

Però els means que pilgrims han de preparar les estades carefully because services can be more widely spaced.

3. Camí Oblidat

Its name already tells part of the story.

The Camí Oblidat, or Forgotten Camí, crosses northern Spain through landscapes que remain largely unknown to international pilgrims.

It passes through mountain areas, valleys i small communities before eventually connecting with routes towards Santiago.

Later, altres routes became more prominent i molt d'aquest Camí faded from general awareness.

Tot it is being recovered and promoted again.

Here the experience is often molt closer to walking through rural Spain than following a major tourist itinerary.

4. Via de la Plata

The Via de la Plata és una de les longestes i most impressives routes towards Santiago.

Starting in southern Spain, traditionally from Seville, it crosses vast landscapes through Extremadura i western Spain before connecting with routes que continuen towards Galícia.

Its scale alone changes the experience.

Distàncies can be long.

Temperatures can be demanding.

Services are sometimes separated by many quilòmetres.

Però reward is extraordinary.

Roman heritage, huge open landscapes, historic cities and long sections where the pilgrim can walk almost completely alone.

5. Camí anglès

via plata01

The Camí anglès és not unknown, però el remain significantment quieter than busiest sections of the Camino Francès.

Historically, pilgrims arribant sigui per Britain, Irlanda i nord-Europa landed in Galician ports per continuar en foot to Santiago.

Totai, the main routes begin around Ferrol and La Corunya.

The Camino Inglés has several advantages.

It is relatively short.

It has strong historical identity.

And it allows pilgrims s limited time to experiència a complete route without starting from Sarria.

It can become bussier en certain times of year, particularment closer to Santiago, però per molt de journey it estill offers a calmer experiència than the main Camino Francés.

Fewer pilgrims also means fewer services

There is an important trade-off.

Escaping les crowds often means escapin les infraestructures que comes with them.

On quieter Camins, pilgrims mai find fewer albergs, restaurants, shops and transport options.

Stages sometimes requereix more planning.

Booking ahead can still be useful in small villages where accommodation is limited, even when there are very few pilgrims.

It is therefore important not to confusi a quiet Camí with an easy Camí.

Sometimes the opposite is true.

The reward: silence

What these routes offer is something increasingly valuable.

Silence.

Hi ha stretches on sound of walking replaces conversation.

Where you can enter a village without seeing another backpack.

Where a small alberg becomes a meeting place instead of dormitory full of dozens of people.

Per some pilgrims, that is precisely what they imagined the Camino would be.

There is no single Camí de Sant Jaume

It is not.

It is a network.

Som Camins cross mountains.

Altres follow coastlines.

Some pass through vineyards.

Altres cross immense plains.

And some estill quiet enough to offer the feeling of discovery.

Per la seva idea de pilgrimage involves feapeople, more silence and little more uncertainty, perhaps the best Camino is not the most famous one.
