The Galician researcher was recognized along with prominent figures of Jacobean journalism
The Camino de Santiago once again brought together in Burgos some of the most important voices of the Jacobean world during the delivery of the XIII Aymeric Picaud International Prize to the Galician researcher Francisco Singul, one of the great experts in culture and heritage of the Camino.
The ceremony took place in the historic Hospital del Rey de Burgos, one of the most important symbols of the French Way and a former medieval hospital for pilgrims. Journalists, researchers, disseminators and representatives of associations linked to the Jacobean universe gathered there from different parts of Spain.

Francisco Singul, art historian, exhibition curator and head of the Xacobea Culture area of the Xunta de Galicia, received recognition for an entire career dedicated to research, dissemination and defense of the Camino de Santiago.
The award was presented by representatives of the League of Associations of Journalists of the French Camino de Santiago, made up of the journalist associations of:
- Aragon,
- Navarre,
- Rioja,
- Burgos,
- Palencia,
- Lion,
- Lugo,
- and Santiago de Compostela.
Pepe Formoso and the Camino journalists were present
Among the attendees and organizers of the meeting, the presence of well-known journalists and communicators linked to the Camino de Santiago also stood out, among them the Galician journalist Pepe Formoso, one of the most recognized figures within Jacobean journalism and the Association of Journalists of Santiago de Compostela.
The meeting brought together numerous communication professionals specialized in heritage, cultural tourism, pilgrimages and the Camino de Santiago for several days, reinforcing the international importance that the Jacobean phenomenon has acquired in recent years.
In addition to the award ceremony, an extensive cultural program was developed with visits to the Cathedral of Burgos, tours of Castrojeriz and meetings related to gastronomy and the landscapes of the French Way.
An award that recognizes the great Jacobean figures
The Aymeric Picaud International Award is considered one of the most prestigious recognitions linked to the Camino de Santiago.
The name of the award refers to Aymeric Picaud, a medieval author related to the famous Codex Calixtinus, considered one of the first great guides to the Camino de Santiago.
Indeed, Francisco Singul received as a prize a facsimile of the historic Codex Calixtinus made by the Burgos publishing house Siloé.
In previous editions, the prize was awarded to outstanding personalities from the Jacobean world such as:
- Anton Pombo,
- Kim Nam Hee,
- Jean Passini,
- Maryjane Dunn
- José Tono Martínez,
- and Carmen Pugliese.
Burgos once again became the capital of the Camino
The city of Burgos thus once again consolidated itself as one of the great cultural epicenters of the French Way.
Thousands of pilgrims cross the province of Burgos every year looking for an experience related to:
- cultural tourism,
- hiking,
- historical heritage,
- gastronomy,
- welfare,
- and spirituality.
Furthermore, the growth of the Camino de Santiago as an international phenomenon continues to drive the interest of the media, researchers and cultural associations around the world.
Precisely figures like Francisco Singul have been helping to explain the enormous historical, artistic and human value that exists behind the Jacobean routes for decades.
The Camino is also built from culture and journalism
Beyond walking towards Santiago, the Camino also lives on thanks to the silent work of historians, writers, journalists and popularizers who keep its memory alive.
And that was precisely what this new edition of the Aymeric Picaud Prize wanted to recognize:
the enormous cultural work carried out over the years by people committed to the Jacobean heritage.
Because behind every yellow arrow...
There is also a story that someone has taken it upon themselves to preserve and tell.
