The Asturian city promotes the Primitive Way as a great tourist and cultural attraction

Oviedo continues to consolidate its position as one of the great references of the Camino de Santiago by claiming its role as the point of origin of the historic Primitive Path. The Asturian capital is committed to strengthening its image as a destination for pilgrims, travelers and heritage lovers seeking to discover one of the most authentic routes with the greatest historical value in Europe.

Every year thousands of visitors come to the city attracted by the combination of history, culture, gastronomy and religious tourism that the capital of the Principality offers. From the Cathedral of San Salvador to its historic center, Oviedo has become an essential stop for those who want to begin their Jacobean experience from the place where the first documented pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela was born.

The Camino Primitivo, considered the oldest Jacobean route, continues to gain prominence among national and international pilgrims. Many travelers choose this route for its natural landscapes, its rich heritage and a quieter experience compared to other busier routes.

The city also works to improve the pilgrim experience through new tourist services, specialized information and cultural activities related to the Jacobean universe. This commitment also contributes to local economic growth thanks to the increase in visitors, hotel reservations, consumption in restaurants and commercial activity linked to tourism.

Oviedo's historical heritage continues to be one of its greatest attractions. Monuments, pre-Romanesque churches and emblematic spaces are part of a cultural offer that attracts more and more travelers interested in discovering the history of Asturias and the Camino de Santiago.

The international projection of the Camino Primitivo continues to grow and places Oviedo as one of the key cities within the great European pilgrimage routes. A legacy with more than a thousand years of history that continues to generate interest among those seeking adventure, spirituality, nature and new travel experiences.
