The weekend of February 15 and 16 has been an especially pilgrim weekend.
On Saturday the 15th, nearly 200 pilgrims mobilized by the Culture area of the Armilla City Council began the Camino Real de San Juan de la Cruz from Granada to Deifontes, to give visibility to this new Jacobean path, passing through the towns of Albolote and El Chaparral.
As they passed through the municipality of Albolote, the pilgrims were received in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento of Albolote and El Chaparral where they were able to seal their credentials on tables installed for the occasion in which tourist information about the municipality and the bracelet with the name of Albolote allusive to the Camino de Santiago were made available to them.
The presence of this large group serves to give visibility to this pilgrimage route that crosses the Eastern Mountains of Granada until reaching Úbeda, in neighboring Jaén and which, like the Mozárabe Way, also passes through the municipality of Albolote.
Mozarabic Sunday
Meanwhile, on Sunday, February 16, almost a hundred pilgrims, mostly from Albolote, resumed their journey along the Mozárabe Way to cover the stage from Alcalá la Real to Alcaudete, organized by the Department of Tourism and Sports of Albolote.
It has now been exactly one year since this group began its journey along the Mozarabe Way from the border with the province of Almería and after this last stage, the tenth in the general count, they are already close to entering the province of Córdoba, the goal of 2025.
This tenth stage, clearly from Jaén, between Alcalá and Alcaudete, runs from castle to castle through a sea of olive trees, following the old ravines and cordes of transhumance during its almost 25 kilometers of route.
A beautiful and extensive route under almost spring-like weather, which allowed the pilgrims to enjoy another magnificent day of coexistence around the Mozarabe Way of Santiago
The day ended at the foot of the Calatrava castle of Alcaudete with a group meal in an old oil mill converted into a meeting room.
