The III Popular Stage of the Camino da Costa will travel 15 kilometers between Vigo and Redondela on June 21
Vigo is preparing to host a new edition of an initiative that unites hiking, vindication and Jacobean spirit. The next Sunday June 21, the city will be the starting point of the III Popular Stage of the Camino da Costa, a march open to all citizens whose main objective is to demand the correct signage of the Portuguese Coastal Way as it passes through the olive city.
The activity, driven by the Xunta of Galicia, will cover approximately 15 kilometers that separate Vigo from the Casa da Torre hostel, in Redondela, following the official route of this increasingly busy Jacobean route.
The departure is scheduled for 09:00 hours from the headquarters of the Territorial Delegation of the Xunta in Vigo, although participants must arrive half an hour before, at 08:30 hours, for the organization of the group and previous instructions. Registration will remain open until June 18, which can be formalized over the phone 986 81 77 97.

The territorial delegate of the Xunta in Vigo, Ana Ortiz, highlighted during the presentation of the event that this third edition "has already become a classic", after the success of the previous calls, held in the urban section of Vigo and between the towns of Oia and Baiona. In addition, he invited citizens to participate in a tour that he defined as "spectacular" through the landscapes of the Vigo estuary.
However, beyond its sporting and tourist nature, the march maintains an important protest component. The Xunta insists on the need to install a official signage of the Camino de Santiago within the municipal area of Vigo, denouncing that numerous pilgrims continue to become disoriented when crossing the city.
According to Ana Ortiz, Vigo continues to be the only large European city crossed by a Jacobean route that lacks official signage, a situation that, in the opinion of the regional government, harms the experience of thousands of walkers who each year choose this itinerary to Santiago de Compostela.
The importance of Portuguese Coastal Way it doesn't stop growing. The data provided during the presentation indicates that, so far in 2026, Nearly 40,000 pilgrims have already collected the Compostela after traveling this route, which represents an increase close to 23% compared to the same period of the previous year. A figure that confirms the rise of one of the Jacobean itineraries with the greatest international projection.
Representatives of the tourism, hospitality and commercial sectors have also supported the initiative, highlighting the positive impact that the pilgrims' passage generates on the local economy. Hotels, restaurants and small businesses increasingly benefit from a constant flow of visitors attracted by the Camino experience.
The III Popular Stage of the Camino da Costa will once again combine the pleasure of walking with the defense of a historical demand: that Vigo facilitate the transit of pilgrims through clear and recognizable signage, in accordance with the importance that the Portuguese Coastal Way has acquired within the contemporary Jacobean phenomenon.
Meanwhile, on June 21, hundreds of people will once again walk this section of the Camino together, remembering that each yellow arrow not only indicates a direction, but also a way of understanding the welcome and hospitality towards those who walk towards Santiago.
