“You Don't Walk Alone”: More than 1,700 Points of Attention Against Sexist Violence on the Camino de Santiago

Pontedeume, A Coruña. He Camino de Santiago reinforces its commitment to the safety of women pilgrims. The Government delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco, presented the campaign in Pontedeume "You Don't Walk Alone", an initiative that already has more than 1,700 points of attention against sexist violence distributed along the different Jacobean routes.

The main objective, as Blanco explained, is to "reinforce the protection of women" who walk the Camino. A crucial measure, considering that women already represent the 53% of pilgrims, many of whom undertake the adventure alone.

Within the framework of this campaign, they will be distributed 34,700 posters and information cards with emergency numbers and details about the resources available in the State Security Forces and Bodies. The application will also be promoted AlertCops, a security tool that allows quick communication with authorities.

This material, written in Galician, Spanish and English, will be accessible at key points along the Camino, such as shelters, pharmacies, health centers and Security Forces posts.

Accompanied by the mayor of Pontedeume, Bernardo Fernández, and other authorities, on a section of the Camino Inglés, the Government delegate highlighted that this initiative, launched in 2021, is a direct response to the growing number of women on the Camino, seeking to offer them the necessary resources so that their pilgrimage is safe and free of violence.
