Karly and Maximine met as strangers while walking the Camino de Santiago. Hundreds de quilòmetres, conversacions i shared days eventualment turned their pilgrimage into a love story. Nou hi ha returned from North America a la ciutat que everything change to get married in Santiago de Compostela.
Some people arrive in Santiago with a Compostela.
Altres leave with something they never expected to find.
That is what happened to Karly and Maximine.
He works as a prison officer in Canada. She is from California i is ten years younger. The did not begin the Camí tot el vespre i they did not travel to Spain looking for love.
They simply happened to meet while walking.
Quilòmetre after kilòmetre, conversations became longer, days were shared and 2 strangers gradually became molt more than fellow pilgrims.
Their Camí eventually ended in Santiago.
But their story did not.
A love story born while walking
Anyone who has walked the Camino knows how quickly relationships can develop on the route.
People who would probably never meet in ordinary life suddenly spend hours walking together.
There are no offices.
No formal introductions.
No carefully planned first dates.
There is simply a path, backpack and enough time to talk.
Aquests appears to been the beginning de Karly and Maximine's relationship.
By the time they reached Santiago, they were no longer simply 2 pilgrims que had met on the road.
They had fallen in love.
They returned to the Camí together
Their connection with Santiago became strong enough that, when the time came to marry, they decided to return.
El couple travelled again to Spain i complete another pilgrimage before celebrating their wedding.
It was therefore molt more than a short walk into Compostela.
Onze again, they wanted the Camino per part d'un important moment in their lives.
An intimate wedding in the Cathedral
The wedding was deliberately small.
Karly and Maximine chose the Chapel of La Corticela, inside the Cathedral complex of Santiago de Compostel·la, for the ceremony.
There were no hundreds of guests.
They were accompanied only by his teenage són, another witness and the priest who celebrated the wedding.
A wedding unlike the usual celebrations
Photographer Mero Afonso was responsible for documenting the day.
He descriut it com un usual wedding in almost every sense.
There was even a curious language situation during the ceremony. According to photographer, the priest did not speak Spanish and had only limited English.
But the language escombraria did little to change the atmosphere.
What mattered was the emotion of the moment.
Per a un parell de relationship que hi ha al crossed countries, llenguatges i thousands de quilòmetres, perhaps it was almost appropriate.
Four hours walking through Santiago again
After the ceremony, the newlyweds continued doing something they already knew very well.
Walking.
Ther photographic session lested almost four hours through different streets and corners of Santiago.
Mero Afonso became no només les seves photographer però també something of improvised guide through the historic city.
Les imatges es van carregar mitjançant MiraCompostela social mitjana account and quickly attracted attention.
Som fotografies showed the elegantly dressed couple against more weathered or unexpected urban backgrounds.
That contrast generated comments online.
He simply chose places where light, shadows i composition worked well.
From a Camino conversation to a wedding
Perhaps el most striking part de l'story és com ordinary its beginning was.
Two people walking.
Two strangers talking.
One day followed by another.
There was no carefully organised encounter.
No dating application.
No romantic pla.
The Camino created the circumstances.
Long-distance walking strips daily life down to something very simple.
You walk.
You eat.
You rest.
You talk.
And sometimes those conversations reveal more sobre another person than months of conventional meetings might.
Why relationships on the Camí feel different
The Camino has produït friendships, romanços and even marriages for decades.
It is not difficult to understand why.
Pilgrims often meet each other at moments when routines have disappeared.
Nobody cars very molt sobre professional status while climbing a hill in the rain.
Appearance becomes les important after several days carrying a backpack.
People talk about why they are walking.
About family.
Loss.
Dreams.
Problems waiting at home.
And sometimes a things they have never told anyone else.
Relationships created in that environment can become surprisingly intense.
Some end when the Camino finishes.
Altres continuen fer beyond Santiago.
Santiago became part of their story
Per a Karly and Maximine, Compostel·la no simplement end of pilgrimage.
It became a geographical point in their relationship.
Returning there to marry transformed the city in something even more personal.
Their first Camí had brought them together.
Their second brought the back to the same destination as couple preparing to begin another journey.
Aquest temps sense yellow arrow showing where to go next.
The Camino changes lives in unexpected ways
Thousands of people begin the camí every year for different reasons.
Faith.
Sport.
Adventure.
Grief.
Curiosity.
A need to change something.
The Camino cannot promise transformation.
It cannot promise answers.
And it certainly cannot promise love.
But it creates encounters.
Sottimes those encounters lest for one stage.
Sometimes for the entire pilgrimage.
And occasionally, they lest long enough for two pilgrims to return to Santiago and say “I do”.
From pilgrims to newlyweds
Karly and Maximine arriben a Santiago onze a les pilgrims que han fallat in love along the road.
Aquest temps s'arriba amb different purpose.
They walked again.
The returned to the city that had become part of their relationship.
And inside La Corticela, they transformed a Camino memory into a new beginning.
Their story sounds like the script of romantic film.
Excepte aquesta real happened.
And, appropriately, it beguen on the Camí de Santiago.
