The Puerta de Abades welcomes visitors again throughout August, improving access to one of the world’s most important pilgrimage sites

The reopening of this traditional entrance comes as thousands of pilgrims and tourists continue to reach the end of the Camino de Santiago, making August one of the months with the highest number of visitors to the Galician capital.
Located on the northern side of the Cathedral, the Puerta de Abades has played an important role throughout the building’s long history. Although it normally remains closed to the public, it is periodically reopened during times of high visitor numbers to make access easier and reduce congestion around the main entrances.
The measure will allow pilgrims to enter and leave the Cathedral more comfortably while helping distribute visitor traffic throughout the historic monument.
