Hospitality, one of the most profound values of the Camino di Santiago, will be the protagonist on the next October 20 to Santiago de Compostela with the slogan of the Hermann Künig Award of Hospitality.
The second edition of the premiere riconoscimento by the Italian organization Pellegrina Accommodation and the spanish priest César González Purroy, due to realtà very diverse ma unite da un longo impegno nell'accoglienza dei pellegrini.
The ceremony will end at 1:00 p.m. at the Museum of Pilgrimages and Santiago and will render visible a work that will specifically involve the rifles, the children, the parishes, and the people in the world.

A rich knowledge of traditional traditions
The Hermann Künig Hospitality Award is created in 2025 by the Association of Friends of the Künig Way to recognize people and organizations that maintain life and value all pilgrims.
The first edition of the prize was awarded to Volunteer Hospitallers, one of the real estate of the Jacobean hospitals, with decades of experience in the accompaniment of human resources and migliaia of volontari coinvolti.
Accoglienza Pellegrina, a bridge across Italy and the Cammino
One of the prizes of the quest'anno will be Accoglienza Pellegrina, an Italian organization created by the direct experience of people bequeathed to the world of pilgrimage.
The association was established in 2013 and has started its own activity on Via Francigena, in the Casa del Pellegrino di Valpromaro.
Its work is based on free volunteers and collaboration with a non-profit structure that practices donations.
In the course of this year the organization has consolidated its own presence in the world of Pellegrina accommodation, also maintaining a strong legacy with the Cammino di Santiago.

César González Purroy, a life dedicated to pellegrini
The second prize winner will be César González Purroy, born priest in Pamplona in 1967 and ordinate in 1997.
His experience in the accommodation of the pellegrini began in Viana, where in 2004 he started a parish church. Five years ago we promoted the parish shelter of San Miguel to Estella.
After his transfer to Pamplona in 2014, he contributed to the creation of the Betania project, which created an ostello for people, a house for volunteers and a youth center.
He is currently a parish priest in Pamplona and an episcopal delegate on the Camino de Santiago.
Your activity is also important to the support and advice of all priests and progetti who are interested in supporting the long-term hospitalization of the Jacobean Rota.
Hang the award with the name of Hermann Künig
The rich knowledge bears the name of the Tedesco Monaco Hermann Künig, author in the 15th century of a very important historical guide dedicated to the films directed to Santiago de Compostela.
Their mission is to provide guidance on itineraries and accessibility and to inform about the difficulties of the trip and the places where they could find help and shelter.
The prize does not provide a financial award. It consists of a terracotta targa made by the ceramist Marta Rivera, inspired by an incision from the historical guide of Künig published to Lipsia in 1521, as well as an honorary diploma.
L'ospitalità, one of the anime of the Camino
The Camino di Santiago comes specifically from the following paesaggi, the cathedrals, the percorsi chilometri and the increasing number of pebbles.
But there is another way, much less visible, build one day when you open a door, prepare a bed, offer a pasture or simply wait for it to arrive in a safe place for a long time.
The Hermann Künig Prize is the only recognition of this part of the pilgrimage: it is not measured in chilometri, but in accommodation.
This quest'anno, with Accoglienza Pellegrina and César González Purroy, the riconoscimento will symbolically unite Italy and Spain around one of the ancient values of the Camino.

The sign that baffles pilgrims

But in Vilamartín de Valdeorras, in the middle of the Camino de Invierno, a traffic sign has achieved precisely the opposite: attracting attention and causing surprise among those...
